The Legend of Linh Ung Pagoda on Son Tra Peninsular

If you have made hotels booking Hoi An, then you know Da Nang is a major jumping point to Hoi An and Hue. However, it doesn’t mean Da Nang is not a bustling city. Da Nang is famous with its entertainment activities and natural, cultural, historical sites. In the previous articles, we have discovered the five Marble Mountains in Da Nang. On one of the mountains stands the Linh Ung Pagoda.

There are three Linh Ung Pagodas in Da Nang, and if you use a pencil connect them on the map, they will almost make an isosceles triangle. That triangle connects three Linh Ung pagodas on: Marble Mountains, Ba Na Hills and Son Tra Peninsular.

Linh Ung on Son Tra is the most beautiful one and has the biggest GuanYin (Lady Buddha) statue of Vietnam. The pagoda lies on Son Tra mountain slope, from there visitors can enjoy the spectacular view of Vietnam East Sea, Cham Islands and Da Nang City. It’s a harmonious combination between the Earth and Human.

Linh Ung Pagoda was built in 2004 and has welcomed its visitors since 2010.

Legend says under the rule of Minh Mang Emperor, fishermen found a Buddha Statue washed up on the beach. Considering this is luck, local people built a temple at the place where Linh Ung Pagoda stands today. Since then, the beach where Buddha Statue was found has called Bai But beach (But means Buddha), represents the Nirvana of Earth.
